SELF-PORTRAIT OF MY AVATAR IN THE MIRROR
2022-2023

The mirror serves as an object, or rather a space, between the observer and myself. I use it to reflect on society's perception of my appearance. It is hard to remain uninfluenced by people's comments on it. In the end, we are all part of the system. It takes a lot of self-reflection, unlearning, and courage to become immune to that. When I look at my avatar in the mirror, I can observe it in a calm manner, hear society's thoughts, but not take it personally. Or at least, I believe so.

The work was inspired by the painting "Self-Portrait in the Convex Mirror" by the Mannerism-era painter Parmigianino.
